The combat and traversal just feel too floaty, the "enemies" (a lot of which are just animals in the game world) are the most generic dull creations you can imagine. Not even the gameplay or game world are well done. Apparently there is a narrative but good luck figuring out what it is, as the writing is terrible. Whoa! This game really is BAD! Somehow the writers (if there actually were any?!) have managed to create possibly the most irritating and unlikeable character in the history of gaming who is incapable of uttering a single sentence without swearing constantly, she's bitter, mean and just horrible in every way. Yet, the game has a certain charm that I believe makes it worth giving a try to anyone. In the end, I recommend Forspoken to anyone who loves Final Fantasy XV or Ubisoft-style open worlds and especially anyone who has a thing for character mobility. I am not sure how many steps forward versus how many steps back Forspoken takes, but there are steps taken forward. There is a lot of diversity in the cast too, in a way we don’t usually get from big-budget RPGs. And I also can’t deny there are some eyebrow-raising moments as to how the writers chose to portray a black woman like Frey, despite personally liking her quite a bit when viewed through the lens of having finished the game. ![]() But at the same time I can’t help but be disappointed with how safe Forspoken plays the open world, and I am unlikely to go back to clear out all of those rote points of interest. There is a lot of fun to be had exploring Athia and the main quest keeps things interesting even when you get bored with the open-world checklist. ![]() Forspoken is a far better and more compelling game than I had feared, but it also doesn’t reach the heights I dreamt of.

It should also be mentioned that, although a road may touch a street and use that to connect to the Town Hall, the opposite is not true – a street must always connect to the Town Hall directly. Streets are quite expensive to place and require a lot of space, so careful planning should be taken to maximize their effectiveness. On the other hand, a street can be used to connect any building, even those that only require an ordinary road. In the Progressive Era and beyond, some buildings will require a two-lane street instead of an ordinary road a single-lane road cannot be used to connect these buildings and will be ignored by them. However, roads also give nothing back when sold so try to preserve them as much as possible when placing/moving buildings rather than destroying and replacing them. For players’ convenience, roads may be replaced with roads of a different type by simply building over the existing road with no need to delete/sell it first. Any building not touching a road with at least one of its edges will display a graphic of a broken chain above it and will cease all productivity. With the exception of decorations, all buildings must be touching a road that is connected to the Town Hall in order to produce coins, supplies, train military units, etc. Roads are essentially a city’s ‘power lines’. ![]() Whats more, by constructing new roads, we can acquire more happiness from our population which in turn helps us progress. They connect our towns and cities and enable our population to access buildings for development and ensure that we can progress through the game. Roads are an essential part to Forge of Empires.
